Bigger boats, fewer stops, faster crossings. Line 2 connects San Zaccaria with Piazzale Roma via Giudecca — about 25 minutes — and adds Grand Canal stops during the day.
Line 2
Line 2 — express via Giudecca and the Grand Canal
Line 2 has two faces. The all-day Giudecca route runs from San Zaccaria around the southern edge of Venice — San Giorgio, Zitelle, Redentore, Palanca, Zattere, San Basilio, Sacca Fisola, Tronchetto, Piazzale Roma, Ferrovia. From about 09:25 to 20:07 it also serves Rialto, Accademia, San Tomà, San Samuele and San Marco Giardinetti — the Grand Canal variant.
Catch Line 2 at San Zaccaria, ride via Giudecca to Piazzale Roma in about 25 minutes. With luggage and a train to catch, this beats walking and beats Line 1.
San Zaccaria to San Giorgio is one of the shortest vaporetto rides in Venice and the best view of San Marco from the water. Climb the bell tower for a panorama better than any Grand Canal photo.
Between 09:25 and 20:07, Line 2 doubles up on the Grand Canal — fewer Line 1 stops, larger boats, less crowded for the same scenic ride.
Line 2 covers the south side of Venice — Giudecca, Zattere, and during the day the Grand Canal too. The fastest way to discover Dorsoduro and the southern lagoon edges.
Just 3 minutes from San Zaccaria — climb the bell tower for the best view of Piazza San Marco from across the basin.
Palladio's Il Redentore church and the quieter Giudecca residential canal — perfect for a calm walk away from the crowds.
A long, sunny walking promenade on the southern edge of Dorsoduro — ice-cream, sunset views over Giudecca, and the iconic Gesuati church.
Only on the daytime variant. From San Tomà you reach the Basilica dei Frari (Titian tomb) and the Scuola Grande di San Rocco (full of Tintoretto).
The fastest way back from San Marco to Piazzale Roma — around 25 minutes via Giudecca, with Rialto as an optional stop.
Yes — but only during the daytime variant (about 09:25–20:07). Outside those hours it stays on the Giudecca route and skips the central Grand Canal stops.
Line 1 stops at every Grand Canal pontoon (20 stops, about 45 minutes). Line 2 skips most of them and adds a southern Giudecca loop. Line 1 is the sightseeing line; Line 2 is the quickest way across town.
About 25 minutes via Giudecca, regardless of time of day. The Grand Canal Line 1 takes around 45 minutes for the same route.
